The Fox Valley Dancers Remember Larry Hoey

I have to admit that I didn't know Larry Hoey very well.  Fairly new to the Door County experience, it took me 3 years to speak with one of whom I believed to be the most talented dancers.  He intimidated me not only with his skill and passion for the dance, but with his quiet, shy manner.

When he did smile, however, I could see in him a very good spirit.   My fellow Fox Valley dancers also knew and loved Larry and early on..as I was learning names, I would tease,  "Is he the knee sock guy?"  I can still picture him teaching at Door Co. '99  in those socks and I have to smile.  I learned so much from him.

This year I felt fortunate to end up dancing next to him a number of times, and have a few conversations with him.  I had hoped I would finally get to know this guy better, but sadly, that was not to be.  I thank Paul for having this site, however, as I have learned so much about him through all of the letters submitted from his closest friends.  I am saddened that I could not learn of these wonderful talents and experiences he had that composed who Larry Hoey was when Larry was still with us, but it again emphasizes, "Cease the day!"

It is a good reminder to all of us to take that extra time and courage to come to know others who touch our lives. The Fox Valley group gathered Monday night outside the Greenville Grange (which to those of you who don't know- is  a beautiful historic building in the country outside of Appleton).

We all shared memories of Larry and Val Braun commented that standing in this circle with the sun
setting and the birds singing their last song for the evening,  was a great tribute to Larry's memory.
He would have liked that.
